Too late to quit 1

It’s still a shock to me that I got married to my cousin, after so many years of loving and caring for the special person. It’s too late to turn back.

As I gazed through the window, watching the bird as they dance and fly around the garden, I could hear the words of my late mother echoing in the room, as she warned me concerning my relationship with my cousin.

My name is Chiamaka, popularly known as Amaka, growing up for me wasn’t a fairy tale as a child. Papa used to be a soft-hearted man, the same as Mama, but lately, he became a beast overnight.

Everything turned sour for me because as the first child, and at my age, I should be expecting my first child, but destiny was twisted for me.

It was sad news for me when I heard that the man of my dream, my sweetheart, the flesh of my flesh and the bone of my bone is my cousin.

I could not stop thinking about the impossibility of the whole news of me marrying my cousin was broken to me. I could remember coming home one Sunday evening, after my husband dropped me in front of my gate, I was so happy, dancing around, that at last I have found a man who does not complete me but compliments me.

Every one including my dad was shocked and lost, because a normal me won’t be dancing and gallivanting for no apparent reason.

My mum gazed at my dad, with her eye lid lowered at him like the way parents do when their child took them by surprise but they were still trying to figure what that surprise could be.

‘’ Honey! What is wrong with Amaka, this one she has been dancing round the house since morning, or did she win a lottery?’’ said mama as she gazed at papa with a surprised look.

Papa said: ‘’ well I can’t say what’s wrong with her mood today because she can be up to something.

Nobody understands her mood in this house. But when she is done dancing she will talk to us’’.

My ears were not far from their whispering neither are my eyes; I could hear and see them as they whisper sweet nothings to themselves.

I have been waiting for this day to come when my parents will be confused about me and what I am up to lately. The day has finally come!

‘’Well papa, mama and my lovely siblings, I know you all might be wondering and cracking your brains what could be wrong with me. God has finally answered my prayers for a good husband. I thought you guys saw the golden ring on my finger. He finally proposed. My love has proposed at last’’

Find out what will happen to Amaka at the end.....
