28 members of the National Union Road Transport Workers (NURTW) were apprehended in Akure, the capital city of Ondo State. They were arrested for illegal possession of arms, but were released after the case was taken to court.
The transporters were arrested by the state police while holding a meeting at the residence of their leader before they were caught.
According to an eye witness said, the weapons were found in the house, after the police carried out series of investigation by searching the residence thoroughly, before they were arrested.
The counsel of the suspects however disclosed that the Ondo State Magistrate Court had discharged them of all the accusations brought against them by the police.
The leader of the group, Aliu Adebayo, begged his followers to remain calm and be peaceful and allow government’s intervention affecting the workers in the state.
