Indeed, rumour spread faster than wild fire. Today, Delta State was thrown into a state of confusion with regards the rumour of forceful death-proned vaccination in schools by disguised Fulani Herdsmen & Boko Haram in Army uniform.
This false news led to forceful withdrawal of pupils & students from schools across the State by parents/guardians. According to the confused parents, they heard that students in Anambra State who were forcefully injected last week died few days later while many others were hospitalized leading to insinuation that the vaccine is DEADLY.
Hence, there was uproar & stampede in schools by parents. However, Gov. Obiano of Anambra State has written to the Federal Government for stoppage of the ongoing vaccination for peace to reign. Similarly, Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has admonished school heads & parents to remain calm & disregard such falsehood.
In a statement signed by Prof Solo Chukwulobelu, Secretary to the Anambra State Government, said
“The attention of the State Government has been drawn to an on going medical outreach being undertaken by the Army in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area.
“The State has been made to understand that the exercise is part of Army social responsibility to members of the public. However, strong apprehension among the populace has followed the exercise leading to withdrawal of students from schools by parents, misconception of the actual motive behind the exercise by stakeholders, community leaders and a general reservation by the public for whom the outreach is intended.”
