Check out the first female governor to rule in Nigeria


Virginia Ngozi Etiaba remains the first female governor of Anambra state and in Nigeria as a whole as history connotes.

She was the Deputy to former governor of the state, Chief Peter Obi during his first tenure as the governor of Anambra state.

Virginia Etiaba was instated as the governor of Anambra state on November 2006- February 2007, when her boss who was the then governor of the state, Chief Peter Obi was impeached by the Anambra state House of Assembly as a result of alleged Gross Misconduct.

She ruled the state for three months until a competent court of law after much judicial proceedings restated Peter Obi as the authentic and original governor of Anambra state on February 2007.

Chief Mrs Virginia Ngozi Etiaba was such a good and patriotic leader whom during her three months tenure as the governor of Anambra state there was total peace, unity and sustainable development in all nooks and crannies of the state as part of the agenda of her boss, Chief Peter Obi.
