A woman, Popoola Adenike has asked an Oke Eda Customary Court of Appeal to dissolve her 18-year old marriage on grounds frequent fight between her husband and her.
At the court’s sitting in Akure on Tuesday, July 25, 2017, the woman noted that her husband, Wasiu Popoola is not responsible and constantly beats her.
She also added that her husband has stopped caring for her and her children.
“He threatens to kill me with cutlass each time we have a fight and it has happened many times,” she told the court.
Adenike also told the court that she wants the court to order the respondent to pay her children’s school fees, adding that she also wants the custody of her three children .
Meanwhile, the respondent told the court that all what his wife said were lies, adding that the only time he could not give his children money was the time his second child, was about to write his WAEC, that was when he could not afford any money for his examination.
"The only money I had with me then was N350,” Wasiu told the court.
He however told the court that his wife was free to leave the marriage, while further reiterating that all she said were lies.
SUNSHINE HERALD gathered that the union between Adenike Popoola and Wasiu Popoola is blessed with four children namely; Olamide Popoola(16yrs), Olumide Popoola(14yrs), Ayomide Popoloa(10yrs) and Olamilekan Popoola(9rys).
The Court President, Mr R.A Omotola in his ruling ordered the respondent to give his wife sum of #5,000 for the upkeep of his children and his wife.
The president thereafter adjourned the case till August 15, 2017 for final termination of the union since the respondent had accepted the claims and the court order.
He further asked the respondent to pay the mentioned sum of money on or before August 8 and asked the couple to allow peace to reign again.
