Introduction After Meal

That lovely evening, after a stressful day , about 6 of my roommates in the first year in school sat around a family sized "Eba" (garri) prepared in a huge plastic. The pot of soup was equally an intimidating size. It was a regular eating pattern.  We can never miss it for anything.

As the meal went on, a young man nice looking man strolled in from another block. No one had an idea who he was. But guess what, he simply joined the company of eaters without introducing himself

We were all surprised and amazed how someone can be that free to join people he never knew before, eating together with them in the same plate. We allowed everything to flow normal.

When the meal was over, he headed for the door and then remembered something- he did not introduce himself. He turned round and said, "My name is __________". He then asked to meet others.

One of my very sarcastic roommates responded, "Before you ate the meal, you did not remember who you were or you forgot because you saw food".

We all had a good laugh.

Just like that young man, how many times have you 'forgotten' your identity because of what is before you?

How many times have men 'forgotten' they are married because of their appetite for sex? How many times have you 'forgotten' you are a christian because of momentary pleasures?

Our identity is who we are- the terrible driver in that traffic jam does not change it. The bike man (okada) driving recklessly does not change it.

We are God's own children (identity). And we have overcome the world (benefits). Greater is He that is in us that He that is in the World.

You must not forget who you are because of a plate of food. Your hunger must never replace your identity. Your identity should drive your desires.

The day your desires are not rooted in your godly identity, you are beginning to lose touch with who you are meant to be.

Never "say just for today"! Once the deed is done, you might want to go back. Forgetting your identity for momentary desires might cost you throwing away your values forever.

A person without an identity is someone without value.
